Campbell Island Bicentennial Expedition

50º South Trust organised the Campbell Island Bicentennial Expedition (CIBE) over the summer of 2010-2011; the largest multidisciplinary research expedition to the island in 20 years.

EOS Ecology sampled 25 streams and 9 tarns, collecting aquatic invertebrates, periphyton, microbes, water quality, sediment quality, and stable isotope samples (see figure below).

They also sampled 34 tarns for water and sediment quality. The 235 invertebrate samples collected as part of this research programme were used to develop the invertebrate keys. Thirty-three different aquatic invertebrate taxa found in these samples are described within the keys and associated information sheets, with three additional taxa described based on information from other records.
